Zappi EV Charger How long should it last?
Well in my case 8 years for my V1 zappi charger. Let me explain how it has performed over the last 8 years and what it was replaced with.
In essence it has performed very well with but two major glitches.
The first problem occurred after 2 years in 2020 when one of the mains contacts overheated. It transpired it was the fault of the installer and myenergi kindly replaced it with a reconditioned V.1unit at no cost under warranty.
The second occurred in 2023 when a firmware update to my eddi caused major issues with the zappi functions.
These two faults are documented here on my blog so click the link for the full details….

So since 2024 the V.1 zappi has been working fine. That was until March 2026. Once again an eddi firmware update caused major problems.

Having discovered the fault with the eddi I researched the myenergi forums and discovered their was a firmware update that would fix this error code. I duly downloaded the firmware and the eddi started to function properly again.
Sadly it did not want to communicate with the zappi and caused the zappi in eco mode to throw its previous fault of cycling between waiting for ev and trying to charge. It worked fine on fast charging but alas it was useless trying to use it in conjunction with my solar panels.
After numerous emails to customer support I decided it was time to upgrade to a refurbished V.2 zappi which was offered to me with a substantial discount. This duly arrived and was fitted by a local electrician MJ Electrical SW Ltd who I can highly recommend.

I stayed loyal to myenergi as I liked the zappi product and was familiar with all its functions. My only complaint is the painfully slow customer service. Mike the electrician spent 45 minutes on hold waiting for customer support to answer the phone to him. For a self employed electrician this is very costly time wasted. When they did answer the issue was solved very promptly. However later that day I spent another 15 minutes on hold whilst I waited on customer service to assist with another app and website problem.
I have said it before and will repeat it here, customer service delays like this are off putting and unacceptable. However once you do get through they do know what they are doing. I did have one other problem whilst testing all was working well, overnight charging proved a problem.

Once the cheap rate on Octopus Go ended at 0530 the zappi then went on and drained the Tesla Powerwall II. However this was easily fixed by basic research on the myenergi forums and website and just entailed some minor changes to settings.
So fingers crossed, hopefully I am now set for another 8 years of EV charging from free solar and cheap rate overnight electricity.
I also now have a spare dumb charger in my old V1 Zappi I am keeping just in case!
