Solar Generation August 2023
August 2023 was the worst for solar generation in the last 5 years that we have had solar panels. It was also the first month since the April change over from BULB that Octopus Energy have actually sent me an accurate monthly bill! This has enabled me to compare like for like with last year. August 2022 was an exceptional year for generation with 186 kWh more generated than this year. If I compare my import figure for 2022 it was just 21 kWh compared to the 144 you can see in the bill below.
June was exceptional for sun and heat yet July and August have been complete washouts compared to previous years. I would never had thought with my solar array that I would be forced to import electricity in August!
Comparative Energy
August 2022 796.167
August 2023 610.73

135.6 kWh @ 9.05p = £12.272
9 kWh @ 28.81p = £2.584
Standing charge = £16.72
Total plus vat £33.16
Gas Use
We heat our water by solar via our myenergi eddi so the boiler is switched off for 6 months of the year hence the standing charge only.

So lets hope global warming and climate change will not disrupt our traditional seasons as much in the coming years as they predict. The good news is that more and more homes in the UK are installing solar panels. According to the Guardian article “On average, more than 17,000 households installed solar panels every month this year” click the link here for the full article
So how are your efforts to reduce climate change doing?
