Robotic Lawnmower Failures: Why My LawnMaster Didn’t Last
When I first bought my LawnMaster robotic lawn mower in May 2023, I was excited about a low-maintenance, automatic way to keep my lawn trimmed. I chose the LawnMaster VBRM16 Drop & Mow and a LawnMaster L10 boundary-wire robotic mower after watching several YouTube reviews. But what followed were repeated robotic lawn mower failures and reliability issues that no beginner should ignore.
Initial Expectations vs Reality
At first, both mowers did a solid job cutting grass — and they drew attention from neighbours. I really thought a robotic mower would eliminate the time and effort of traditional mowing. But within months, technical problems began to mount: touchscreen control failures, strange noises, and unpredictable behaviour.
Repeated Component Failures and Reliability Problems
The LawnMaster L10 keypad failed less than a year after purchase, making it unusable — a sign of poor component quality. Less than 7 months later the replacement suffered the same problem. On April 2, 2025, another mower started clicking and driving in circles instead of cutting grass — a clear sign of internal failure. These kinds of failure modes and mechanical faults are common with low-cost robotic mowers and often lead to early breakdowns.
Why Some Robotic Mowers Break Early
Across reviews of LawnMaster models and similar entry-level robotic lawnmowers, users report consistent problems like:
Short operating life and random malfunctions — units failing after months or even weeks of use.
Poor reliability on uneven lawns or slopes — many models struggle with anything but perfectly flat grass.
Inconsistent cutting patterns and missed spots — leaving patchy lawns and requiring manual trimming.
Battery and charging problems — poor battery life or faults that stop the mower mid-job.
Dull edge cutting and large uncut borders — robotic mower design often can’t reach close to edges.
These reflect common robotic mower reliability issues that many owners search for online when considering whether robotic lawnmowers are worth it.
Handling Warranty, Customer Service & Refunds
One positive was that customer service did eventually refund one of the faulty mowers under guarantee. It’s worth stressing that good after-sales support can matter more than price when it comes to tech like robotic mowers. Still, many users report delays or difficulty getting replacements for faulty units — something you should consider before buying a robot mower.
What I Learned: Choosing for Reliability
After experiencing multiple LawnMaster failures, I opted for a different robot mower with better Wi-Fi/app control, sturdier build quality, and more reliable performance — all of which are key factors that separate dependable robot lawn mowers from cheap ones prone to breaking down.
