Sheds To Last On eBay
I thought I would write this review of my experience whilst purchasing a garden shed from Sheds To Last On eBay. I had a very old 8 feet X 6 feet wooden garden shed for many years. I had often patched up the rotten timbers but this year I decided enough was enough and I would need to splash out on a new garden shed.
As you can see from the image it was in a sorry state and not only had I patched the sides but the repairs to the roof had dropped off over the winter and it now leaked badly.
Having decided to grasp the nettle I then started an internet search to price up a replacement. I was shocked at how much people were asking for a standard 8 x 6 feet garden shed. My quotes varied from £379 to just short of £2000. The cheapest price was based on the thinnest materiel going hence I quickly dismissed them.
I then found Sheds To Last which was a local Devon based firm. They have their own website but their eBay shop actually had the same shed listed cheaper and included free postage. The clincher for me was the construction of the shed “12mm shiplap cladding, 12mm floor, and 12mm roof both tongue and groove boarding” none of your flimsy 8mm wood here. It was priced at £695 on eBay. I decided to go for it and hit the buy it now button. I placed the order on the 8th July 2024 and the estimated delivery date was the 15th – 18th July 2024.
That gave me time to empty the old shed and start to dismantle it.
Its amazing how much junk I had been storing in this garden shed. Me thinks some serious sorting out would be necessary.
I had a phone call on the 15th July stating the shed would be delivered between 9-5 pm that day. Just before lunch I had a call from the delivery driver from Gardener Transport stating he would arrive around 2pm. He duly did driving a 16ton soft sided lorry. The shed was mounted on a single pallet and was soon offloaded and maneuvered down my drive.
The lorry driver said it was the best packed shed he had ever delivered.
I can confirm it was well packed as it took me ages to unscrew all the extra side panels which held all the sections in place. Once dismantled it was carried into the garage for me to get to staining the shed the next day.
It took me all the next day to stain all the exterior of the panels in Cuprinol Ducksback rich cedar wood stain.
Once that was complete I then had to carry the sections to the bottom of the garden ready for assembly the next day.
I was able to get to this stage i.e. all the walls up ready for the roof on my own in one day. I decided to seek the help of my son later that evening to install the roof panels as at 68 years old I was feeling the strain.
Once the roof was up I retired for the day well knackered. The next morning I set about separating all the rubbish that did not need to go into the new shed and by the end of the day all was placed inside where it belonged and the two potted trees my wife had bought for decoration were installed.
I have to say I am really pleased with my purchase. There were no missing knot holes in the panels. There was more than enough screws and nails and the fit and finish for the price of the shed was excellent. I can tell that this shed will probably outlast me so I am glad I was not tempted to go for the cheapest end of the market on eBay.
