Do Not Buy A LSH 20 Lithium Battery Until You Have Read This Blog Post –
I have bought several of these Saft LSH 20 Lithium batteries over the years for my remote controlled gas fire. They cost a small fortune and if you search ebay you will find them on offer for around the £53 – £73 mark and they do not seem to last very long for the price you pay. The problem I have with these batteries is that they run out at the most inconvenient times, usually at the week end or in the evening when there are no shops open to buy a replacement.
I then have a cold lounge as I cannot ignite the gas fire and have to wait until I can hunt out a replacement. Even this is proving more difficult as few retailers near me sell this kind of battery. I then have to hunt around to find the best Saft LSH 20 Battery Price.
But not anymore……

I have discovered an alternative to the Saft LSH 20 Lithium Battery – namely – Universal SAFT alternative Lithium Replacement Battery Pack.
Here are the good points.
- Costs just £19.99 including 6 batteries on eBay
- Fits and works my fire just the same
- Easy to replace AA size batteries (I always have new spares at home so no failed fire ignitions!)

Once you have bought a replacement battery pack as I have, buying Duracell AA batteries on Amazon is a very cheap alternative for future years. I also think it may be difficult if not against Royal Mail Policy to send the old Saft LSH Lithium battery packs by post making them even harder to replace if you really want to waste money on an expensive original.

So if you want to save yourself £££’s then I can recommend you give it a try. It would be essential for you to read the sales page for all the types of fires it fits first though!
Alternative Lithium Replacement Battery
You can save even more money by switching to this method of battery replacement as the original SAFT battery is selling for around £73 now and this replacement has only gone up by six pounds in the intervening years since I first discovered this solution.
I have just pulled out the battery pack and replaced the Duracell batteries ready for winter in my own gas fire so I am good to go for another winter saving on my battery purchase. You can tell exactly when you need to replace the AA batteries as the fire bleeps at you but you get no spark.
The thing I like best about this purchase is that I always have spare Duracell batteries in the house so I will never have the situation again where the battery pack goes flat and the annoying bleeps start with no ignition of the fire and I have to wait days to order and receive the extremely expensive replacement.

i have the same fire as in your picture, The fire worked last year when we moved in.
I don’t have the instructions for the fire or what type it when i press the 2 buttons on the remote i just get a clicking whirring sound but no spark from the ignition
post. Would this indicate the battery pack is “flat” do you think ?
i was searching for a replacement saft battery and cheapest i could find was £73. Happily i stumbled across your blog. So i have just bought the universal one on eBay for £19.99. I will let you know how i get on.

Hi Steve,
I use my gas fire infrequently and usuallyI have to buy another Saft battery to get it going. This is very annoying as using the fire is often a spur of the moment choice. By the time the battery arrives the moment has long gone so the new battery just sits there making sure that it has drained itself completely by the time I want the fire on again.
Having read your article I decided to give the alternative to a SAFT battery a go. Great! the fire started, that’s the main thing but now I know when needed a replacement battery is in the cupboard for instant and cheap replacement.

Six AA batteries produce 9V, the battery pack specifies 7V. That looks like a problem.

The pack I used to buy was 7.2v and I have found the extra 1.8v has had no impact on the use of my fire and as you can see from the many comments above it has not affected others, therefore I do not see it is a problem as you suggest.
