Building Extension Ivybridge

Building Extension Ivybridge If you are looking to have an extension built and you live in the Ivybridge area of Devon you may like to read about my experience of an extension to link the main house with the garage. Here is the view from the front of the house where we needed the extension Building Extension Ivybridge Here is the view from the rear of the house. The walk way between the back door of the utility and the side door of the garage was the area in question.

Ever since buying the house from new over 20 years ago Karen has been on at me to have this area covered in so she could go to the tumble dryer and freezer situated in the garage without getting wet.

The image shows I had just removed the fence and gate post in preparation for work to commence. The First Problem Will it need planning permission or not? Will it need building Regulations? It seems very strange to me how local planning interpretation can vary so much between areas.

The only advice I can give you is consult the local planning department yourself as we received different views from a number of trades people during the quotation period (and yes it did need planning permission which caused a major delay!).

I finally settled on South Hams Double Glazing as the company I would instruct to carry out the work. Simon Harvey is the owner and is the sole workman in his company. From my first contact with Simon on the phone to the final completion of the project Simon has been very helpful and nothing has been too much trouble nor has any problem encountered stumped him.

Simon does not do all the work himself he contracts out some of the work to other tradesmen.

For the ground work he instructed Ivybridge Building And Landscaping

Dave and Phil were a really hard working pair of professional tradesmen who really knew their job. They had to work in some horrendous conditions with torrential rain flooding the site.

I have never seen such hard working individuals who put themselves out to help meet our deadline for the build. I shall definitely be using them again.

Once the ground work was complete they assisted Simon in installing the large glass panels.

Simon too is a grafter and worked tirelessly on his own to complete the build in all weathers.

All the electrical work he tasked Aaron Olver of Westcountry Electrical Ltd Again Aaron is a one man band and is really helpful and another hard worker.

He had already upgraded my electric supply for the the garage so I could have a pod point fitted for my new electric car and he installed all the plug points and lighting for the extension.

UPDATE 2020 I can no longer recommend Aaron Oliver as he let me down badly over an electric car charger installation. Read the full story here Zappi Car Charger

Once all the tradesmen had finished it was up to me to put down the flooring and install the units and decorate the room for its new owner.

Oh did I forget to mention its new owner?

Well as well as keeping Karen dry when she goes to the freezer this was to be a “Dog Room” for our new arrival Archie the Clumberdoodle.

You can read all about Archie The Clumberdoodle by visiting Karen’s Blog here by clicking this link Archie The Clumberdoodle .

So to conclude, if you are looking for good tradesmen in the Ivybridge area of Devon to do your extension I call strongly recommend the below…

Simon Harvey South Hams Double Glazing

Dave & Phil Ivybridge Building And Landscaping

But not Aaron Oliver Westcountry Electrical Ltd

PS – No I am not being paid for this review – it is a genuine recommendation. [color-box] Update October 2018[/color-box]

Ivybridge Building and Landscaping

were our first choice of tradesmen to build our new patio following the good work they did on our building extension back in 2017.

We were so pleased with the quality and dedication of the work by Phil and Dave we were prepared to wait for a slot in their busy schedule to replace our rotting decking with a new much larger patio area.

We selected a quality paving slab and decorative edging from the Marshalls brochure.

We chose the  SYMPHONY PAVING, Buff, decorative edging with DRIVESETT TEGULA in hazelnut. Dave and Phil are hard workers. They first had to rip out and dispose of the old decking and patio, then reshape and create a new one to our design.

Both are skilled and very understanding of what we were trying to achieve and tolerant of our often cryptic requests. They managed to turn this….

Into this…

What these images cannot show is the amount of hard manual labour it took to transform these garden areas.

We are very pleased with the results and can recommend Ivybridge Building And Landscaping to anyone.

Well I’m impressed. Three reasons really, 1, that the sun actually can shine in Ivybridge! Secondly, shorts instead of long trousers and a fleece! And saved to last, your cute little puppy Rhubarb.

Excellent review though found it very interesting.
