My Step By Step Guide
Before you even consider the process of How To Start A WordPress Blog you should be asking yourself the fundamental question of “Why” you want to start one.
I cannot emphasise this enough!
It may be you want to learn a new skill, you may have a hobby or interest you wish to share with other, you may wish to start an on line business and earn money from your blog.
Whatever the reason write it down now and be very clear what direction you wish to go in as this will save you time and heartache later.
If you have found the whole subject of creating a blog confusing, then I understand – I was where you are once.
Follow these four easy steps to increase your chance of success – its what I did!
Choosing a Domain Name:
I assume you have taken my advice above and now know exactly what your blog is about.
This is a great help in the next part of the process which will be deciding the Domain Name you will need to purchase.
The domain name is just like your home address or post code. It is a unique identifier for your website address.
Mine here is www.stevefreemanonline.com which is just my name. Karen my wife has her own blog at Karenfreemansworld.com and she also has a business website selling antique silver called www.Silver2treasure.com.
As you can see it pays to create a domain name reflecting what you have decided to make your blog subject about.
Once you have decided do a quick check in Google to see if it is already taken. Do try and get it right first time as changing it once you start to publish articles is very difficult.
Choosing a Hosting Company & Installing The WordPress Software:
Why does this matter?
Let me explain.
There are a number of different blogging platforms you can chose.
The free ones such as blogger I do not suggest as you never own the domain name or the site itself and each carries its own restrictions.
I recommend using WordPress as I have been using it for years and it is the easiest to learn and get started with in my opinion.
It does however cost a small amount of money to set up a web hosting account. I recommend using Hostgator as I have been with them for years now and they have the best customer service of the many hosting companies I have tried.
I am an affiliate which means I do get a small commission if anyone buys a hosting package as a result of clicking a link from any advert I promote.
The link below is one such offer I am promoting.
($3 = about £2.50 per month – that is how cheap it can be to get started)
Once you have purchased your hosting account then you just need to install WordPress.
Writing your first post:
Having made it this far you are now ready to start to let the world know about your chosen subject.
Let the world know all about you and introduce yourself. Create what content you wish and be as individual as you like.
Just go on and do it!
But that’s not all.
Make it Pretty.
The basic installation comes with a free theme.
There are also many others you can search for inside WordPress which are also free. However after a while you will want to make your blog different and stand out from the crowd.
That is why I always build my websites using Studiopress.
These themes have state of the art coding and come from a reputable company.
You can see their products by clicking the link below which again is an affiliate link and one I will earn a small commission from if you chose to buy through my link.
Blogging about food is a great hobby!!
And now Congratulate yourself on achieving your very own blog. Now the fun really starts…….

I now only follow two marketing experts on the web.
Its taken me years to narrow down to just two.
These two experts actually give good sound advice that actually works. They are also always up to date.
( I have no association with these sites – I just think they are worth following)
This is the only paid resource I now use. Many courses are free but quality comes at a price. If I want to learn something new I research the best paid course on Udemy
I can highly recommend Udemy as a learning resource – they have a course for almost everything. (This is an affiliate link from which I may earn a commission)
I have found it useful to have a check list to hand of all the things I need to do when creating a new post. You can get a copy of my very own check list now for free.
