How to earn a retirement Income from the Internet Part 15 - Traffic & Backlinks. In this part of my introduction to earning money from the Internet I want to share some of my experience regarding Traffic and its relationship to "Backlinks".

First what is a "Backlink". In simple terms it is a word or phrase containing "Anchor Text" which links from another website back to your own site - hence "Backlink". Anchor Text means the words or phrase which you use to create the hyper link to anchor the link to your site. So in the case study for this series the anchor text will be antique silver dish which are my keywords I wish to get a high ranking for in the search engines. This link now takes the reader who clicks it away from this page to the case study website. Therefore the hyperlink I have just create counts as a "backlink" to antiquesilverdish.com. [Read more...]

How I Create A Niche Website – Part 12 Tell The Search Engines

How to earn a retirement Income from the Internet Part 12 Tell The Search Engines. So now you have added lots of fresh unique content to your blog its time to tell the world about it!

For your blog to be found by people searching the Internet it needs to be indexed by the search engines. The simple way to do this is to tell Google, yahoo and Bing by using their add a site facility

For Google go to Google Webmaster Tools log into your google account and you should end up at a page like this

Just click on the add a site button and then add your website URL. Click the add button and that's it done. You will be asked to verify your site with Google. It is not the end of the world if you do not but I always verify it by clicking the link to my google analytics account which is easier than the other 3 options.

Next you need to go to Yahoo Site Explorer Page If you are not already registered with Yahoo you will need to sign up but it is free and worth doing to get them to index your website. Just follow the link to submit a site and enter you url.

Next we go to Bing submit a site this one is much easier to fill in. Just fill in the characters you see in the box and enter your website address in the second box and hit submit and your job is done.

Now you have to wait for the search engine spiders to crawl over your website to index your pages and posts. they will then display your efforts in the search results.

Now to test if your website has been indexed by Google just type your url into the google web browser search box without the www. in front. so I would type in antiquesilverdish.com into the google search bar. that will give you an indication that it has been indexed.

However I would never launch a site at the search engines UNTIL it had a decent amount of content for them to index.

Now when its ready - Go tell the World about your latest creation!!
